Helping already in 2018

We wanted to share with this amazing community, some of where our funds raised have gone in 2018. At our January Board mtg we voted to grant $16,568.68 to those men and women who applied for financial assistance during that month. This past Tuesday night, at our February mtg, we granted $14,540.24 in financial assistance to those who find themselves in financial distress as a result of their breast cancer diagnosis and its barbaric treatment. ….just any FYI…we “service” patients and their families in 29 towns/cities in CT ( a list can be found at our website) www.seymourpink.com …not just Seymour….our community support that we receive extends through the state and beyond its borders… As always we are grateful for your continued...

Holiday Greeting

As we celebrate this holiday season, I, on behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors of Seymour Pink, want to take this special time to say thank you for all the support you have given to us in the fight against breast cancer. Through your unending support we have been able to financially assist over 110 breast cancer patients and their families this year. In addition, we were able to make a$25,000 donation to  Smilow Cancer Center helping women currently receiving chemotherapy to use the Scalp Cooling Modality minimizing hair loss!  And at Thanksgiving, those families that we had helped this year to date received a $100 gift card to help them enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday. Additionally we will be sending each of these patients a “Christmas” present too! All of the financial assistance and emotional support that we have been able to give these families this year is the result of you saying YES to the fight. You have brought HOPE and STRENGTH and COURAGE to so many people struggling with breast cancer! So to all, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! God bless, Mary Deming Founder/President Seymour Pink,...

post 6th Annual 5K thoughts

How do you describe, in words, what yesterday was all about? For the last six years I have failed to find the right words to capture the sights, sounds and the emotions of the 5K. I think in the end it’s because words can’t define our 5K event. You can only FEEL yesterday! Our 5K has grown incredibly in the last six years not just in number of participants, but in the amount of support and hope and love this community has for those of our loved ones and friends who have heard those words, “You have breast cancer!” For me personally, there were so many moments that I felt my own mother, who lost her fight to metastatic breast cancer in 1972 at the age of 55, right by my side. I can only believe that that was true for so many people yesterday. For our breast cancer survivors, our HEROES, who came to participate despite the fact that some were in active treatment, YOU INSPIRE US! Nothing deters you! If anything you were more determined to show breast cancer that it was not in charge of your life. We had 128 breast cancer survivors with us yesterday. So many came up to me to share what yesterday meant to them. One woman said, “This is the best medicine for me to beat my breast cancer! I know I can fight this and win because I see so many people here supporting me in the fight!” For each of us the 5K means something different BUT one thing is the SAME…We FIGHT together and we WIN together! Please...

Ion Bank Award

Last night, Chris Vartko (Seymour Pink’s Treasurer) and I were invited to attend the ION BANK FOUNDATION’S 2015 Community Awards Program Reception. As many of you know, ION BANK has a “give back to the community” type program which allows customers to vote on their favorite non-profit organizations. Those non-profits receiving the most votes are awarded grant monies based on the percentage of votes received by ION’S customers. Seymour Pink was fortunate to be one of 60 non-profits receiving an award last night! We received an award of $1359.00! Thank you to all of the ION customers that voted for PINK and a very special THANK YOU to ION. I was very impressed with the entire ION community last night. The officers and employees of the bank were friendly, kind, and showed great interest in the community! Mr. David Rutatori, Executive VP and CFO of ION was the Master of Ceremonies last night. He was so sincere and so interested in all of the stories he heard from the guest speakers (4 non-profits were chosen to share some information about the work their non- profits do for in the community). It is obvious that ION believes in COMMUNITY! Chris and I talked with thee most amazing people last night, both from ION and other non-profits. The event was full of electricity and enthusiasm (ironic, the newer bank name ION, an electrically charged particle)…I want to personally thank Marylou Cunningham, Ion’s Marketing Officer, for all of the work she put into the night to make it such a HUGE experience for all of us. Once again, we are humbled by the...
