Gordon Ramsay: 24 Hours To Hell and Back

Back in November, Seymour Pink secretly helped with the renovation of a Stone’s Throw Restaurant as part of Gordon Ramsay’s FOX TV show 24 Hours to Hell and Back.  Seymour Pink board members and volunteers spent hours working on the tiles that now adorn the foyer in the updated restaurant.  Unfortunately, the producers ultimately did not include Seymour Pink in the show that aired Jan. 30th, 2019.  While we are a little disappointed that we weren’t included in the national TV show – we all know that this was just another example of how we support our community. I wanted to share with you what Stone’s Throw planned for last night’s viewing party. They really made it a lot of fun! Each place setting had a trivia game based on the Gordon Ramsey‘s visit. The trivia quiz contain 30 or so questions about Stone’s Throw, about Gordon Ramsey’s visit, about Tara and Peter and their family.Prizes were awarded to the top three individuals with the most correct answers. To participate in the trivia game you paid five dollars. In addition they had a 50-50 raffle. And they had a colorful game going on at the bar. All of these games that they planned, raised money and last night at the end when the show was over, Peter and Tara presented Seymour Pink with close to $1000 in money raised just from the games they use to connect all of us last night! Is that not something else or what? This was THEIR night and instead they turned around and made it our night! If you have not had a...

2018 Holiday Message

This time of the year can be magical! Unfortunately for some, it brings darkness instead of light. The expectations of the season for some cannot be fulfilled and with that comes disappointment and despair. Not every family has a “Norman Rockwell” holiday perfect in oh so many ways. Giving someone the gift of HOPE in their time of darkness, can bring LIGHT to those struggling!. Time and again, I have witnessed so many gifts of HOPE given by members of this community! Whether it be a monetary gift or delivery of unexpected groceries, or home cooked meals, or an unexpected appearance of Christmas gifts for families in need, or words of encouragement, a helping hand, a much needed hug… the list of gifts of HOPE that I have witnessed, is endless. The gift of HOPE is Priceless! When you bring HOPE to someone, you bring them optimism, you give them a sense that all things are possible, you give them a reason not to give up. Your Gift of HOPE brings the LIGHT needed to persevere thru darkness. To those who have financially supported our mission, for all the INCREDIBLE volunteers who have given SO many hours at our fundraising events, at our Gift Shop, for those of you who have extended a helping hand to someone struggling as a result of their breast cancer diagnosis and it’s barbaric treatment, please know YOU have brought HOPE to them AND to this community! On behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors of Seymour Pink, I want to express our deepest gratitude for ALL of the gifts of HOPE you...

43rd MCM after-thoughts

The 43rd Marine Corps Marathon is in the books! The impact it had and will continue to have on the lives of our team members, our marathoners, and all whom supported them along their journey to get to the start line and to cross the finish line, will last FOREVER. So many of our Team Seymour Pink MARATHONERS have attempted to share with all of you their experiences and the impact of running this marathon has had on them..what it meant to them to cross the finish line. For many, the words to adequately capture the emotions of the day escape them. I too am at a loss for words. So let me just say this, you truly have to BE THERE to understand this experience. As a runner and also as a spectator, it is a life changing experience! To all our team members, your commitment to sacrifice time, energy, to train for this marathon (often persevering through painful injuries), for those less fortunate, for those in need, for those who can’t run, for our loved ones who themselves have fought through the pain of breast cancer and it’s barbaric treatment, THANK YOU! As a member of your support crew, I know I speak for all of the support crew…you have changed OUR lives forever! With hearts full of gratitude, THANK YOU!!! Poppy, Princess Aurora and your entire MCM support crew! YOU ARE the Class of 2018 MCM...

7th Annual Pounding the Pavement for Pink recap

Probably the most difficult part of the 5K happens the day after when I try to put into words what the 5K meant to me! Perhaps it’s a trite saying, but I am at a loss for words which would even come close to describing what yesterday meant to me and what it felt to me. There are so many times during the morning when the view my eyes capture brings me to tears; yes tears of sadness but so much more, tears of joy. The sadness is selfish! I think of the loss of my mother and I think to myself another time another place life would’ve been different.  But the tears of joy overwhelm those tears of sadness. Yesterday, the aerial view of all of you lined up to start the race (yes you all made behind the starting arch before 9 am…a former student whispered, later to me, that my “teacher voice” came out…sorry), brought me to the edge. The line of runners and walkers seemed ENDLESS!  Then as you all headed down Derby Ave, I saw a “See of Pink”…Pink, Pink and more Pink, and once again my eyes filled. Many views from the stage are inspiring as much as emotional. I see the faces of those who have heard those words, “You have breast cancer” (sometimes more than once) and have fought the Fight-and WON!  I see the faces of family members holding each other, remembering the loved ones they’ve lost, wishing they could have had one more day… I am inspired by the strength of all of you, because YOU bring HOPE to...

9th Annual Golf Tournament Thoughts

“PERFECT” describes yesterday’s 9th Annual Seymour Pink golf tournament at Woodhaven Country Club in Bethany Connecticut! Perfect weather Perfect golf course Perfect food/drink Perfect raffles The 9th Pink golf tournament was Perfect in EVERY way because we are blessed with thee most generous support from thee most CARING community. In everything we do, the success we meet is a reality because of the VOLUNTEERS who endlessly give of their time and energies! They are PERFECT! Lastly, the distinguishing mark of our Annual Golf Tournament is our tournament director, Mary Ellen LoGiudice! From the very first year that Maryellen committed to organizing and presenting a PINK golf tournament to yesterday’s ninth year, she has given so much time and energy and in other ways unseen by many! The monies that have been raised over these nine years by this event have help to lift the financial and emotional burdens of more than 1000 men and women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families. Mary Ellen on behalf of all of those men and women and their families, please know the difference you have made in their lives. Through your dedication to PINK and this community, you have eased their burdens uninvited and unexpectedly brought on by the breast cancer diagnosis! THANK YOU to Mary Ellen and my ENTIRE volunteer Pink Board of Directors and Officers… ?? … and a very special thank you to our husbands and wives who always say “Yes...

2018 A Pink Night To Remember

Try to explain, to capture the essence of last night. It’s an impossible task because there were so many emotions, so much energy in the room that each of us experienced at different levels. So I would just give my reflection of what last night meant through my eyes. HOPE! it was all about hope. What is Hope? For me, it is the belief that despite the darkness of circumstances that may surround you, the light will shine again and darkness will be gone. It is a trust! Trust in yourself, trust in your friends, trust in your family, trust in a community, trust in a greater power than self! HOPE could be seen and felt last night at our Pink Night to Remember! It was the smiles on the faces of those who, despite being in the midst of their barbaric breast cancer treatment, were feeling the love and support in the room. It was the smiles on the faces of the their loved ones as they watched them having fun, socializing, bonding with fellow BC “sistas”. It was, once again, the the depth our community, united in the Fight against breast cancer, showed last night. HOPE is so powerful! HOPE is therapeutic; it has a healing impact. Many felt that healing! Last night was a night of HOPE , a night filled with the feeling that despite the darkness of the Breast cancer diagnosis, there is LIGHT. It was palpable, you could feel it! It truly was “A Pink Night to Remember”! And each and everyone of you made last night happen through your volunteering through your...
